With American servicemembers now deployed in support of Operation Epic Fury, we believe it’s time to honor the warriors right here in our own backyard. Nominations are open.
As many of you know, before I was a CPA, I was a soldier. I served in Operation Iraqi Freedom III, and that experience shaped everything about who I am — how I think, how I work, and why I started this firm. So when I watch American men and women deploy in support of Operation Epic Fury, the ongoing U.S. military campaign against Iran that began in February 2026, I don’t just see news coverage. I see brothers and sisters in arms.
That’s why my wife and Simpson & Simpson Accounting co-founder, Monica, and I have decided to reopen our Local Warrior Combat Veteran Award. Click here to learn more about the award and its past recipients.

We first launched this award back in 2018, and since then we’ve been honored to recognize five remarkable local warriors:
- SFC Darrell Shelnut – August 2018
- SSG Trey Wright – August 2018
- SGT Jeremy Sewell – January 2019
- Soyini Stewart – May 2019
- Jack Kowall – October 2019
Each one of them has given something extraordinary for this country — and getting to look them in the eye and say “thank you” has been some of the greatest moments of my career.
“It takes an incredible amount of courage, and I want these warriors to know they are appreciated.”
When we launched the program, we pledged to donate 2% of our proceeds throughout the year to honor local veterans and active military — and that commitment hasn’t changed. What has changed is the urgency. With troops now actively engaged overseas in Operation Epic Fury, the families and communities behind those servicemembers need to know their sacrifice is seen.
We can’t all serve. But we can all say thank you.
I also want to say something to any veteran out there who’s transitioning out of service and thinking about starting a business: come talk to us. Starting a company after the military can feel just as complicated as any mission you’ve ever run — and we specialize in helping entrepreneurial veterans get profitable as fast as possible. Our mission is to be everybody’s favorite CPA, and that starts with the people who’ve sacrificed the most for this country.
If you know a Local Warrior in the Woodstock, Atlanta, Canton, or surrounding area who deserves to be recognized, please take two minutes and nominate them by emailing me at [email protected]. These men and women don’t ask for the spotlight — but they’ve more than earned it.
